Where Investment Is Needed
Eco-Lodge Development
Kampong Thom currently has fewer than 10 quality accommodation options. There is clear demand from international travellers for well-designed eco-lodges near Sambor Prei Kuk, along the Stung Sen river, and in the Prey Lang buffer zone. The gap between what visitors want and what exists is wide — and widening as UNESCO awareness grows.
Silk & Craft Cultural Centre
Baray District produces some of Cambodia's finest silk but has no organised venue for visitors to learn, buy, and engage with the craft tradition. A cultural centre combining a gallery, working looms, natural dye demonstration, and a retail space for certified artisan products would serve both the tourism market and the weaving community directly.
Farm-to-Table Restaurant & Cooking School
Kampong Thom's agricultural wealth — freshwater fish, palm sugar, organic vegetables, free-range poultry — is exceptional but almost entirely absent from its hospitality offering. A farm-to-table restaurant sourcing directly from local producers, paired with a cooking school, would capture the growing culinary tourism segment and create stable income for farming communities.
Quality Transport Network
The province lacks reliable, quality transport options between Kampong Thom town and the main attractions. A small fleet of air-conditioned vehicles offering scheduled transfers to Sambor Prei Kuk, Phnom Santuk, and Baray District would remove one of the main friction points for independent travellers and school groups.
Digital Visitor Experience Platform
Kampong Thom has no audio guide, AR experience, or digital ticketing for Sambor Prei Kuk despite its UNESCO status. A multilingual digital guide app — covering the temples, mountain, and Prey Lang — would significantly improve the visitor experience and provide a sustainable revenue stream for heritage maintenance.
What We Will and Won't Support
We will connect serious investors with opportunities that genuinely benefit Kampong Thom's communities and environment. We won't facilitate extractive projects that take value out of the province without putting it back.
